We first met Rose Sweeney and her Vom Haus Edinburgh German Shepherds about two years ago.  After talking with her we soon realized she was raising German Sheps for families.  That’s what we wanted. 

We had just lost our sweet Edgar, a Shep Mix, and needed another Shep to fill the void.  Rose saved

us from our loss with her pups.  We thought our

first Shep was the best dog ever, but then we

met Rose’s pups!  When we picked up our pup,

Guthrie, from Rose, he already knew his name,

how to sit, and shake paw.  And he was only

seven weeks old! 

He surpassed all our expectations.

Rose works with her pups from birth to delivery to

new owner.  When you take home a Rose pup,

you take home an already trained and

trainable baby. 

To this day, we are amazed when we think of how

much time she must spend with each puppy to get

him or her ready for the new owner.  She spends

sooooo much time with the babies.  The coolest

thing is to visit her house, find your pup, and

watch the pup respond to its name.  Wow!

This is a woman who does more than breed.  Rose

is a breeder who brings first of all top quality

bloodlines to her pups.  Secondly she delivers

love to her pups who are already so family ready. 

We wish we had more words to describe

how good these pups are.

So, what better proof is there of a great breeder

than returning to her?  That’s exactly what we did. 

We wanted another pup; we went

back to Rose for a second puppy.  And there was Woodson – already sitting, shaking, obeying

commands.  Oh my, it doesn’t get any better. 

Two times now we have taken home a

Vom Haus Edinburgh Shepherd. 

Two times, we and all of our friends, have been

amazed with the gentleness, the intelligence, the

beauty of Rose’s pups.  Two times we have said

that this Rose Sweeney is a gift to those of us

who love German Shepherds! 

Every time we look at our two boy pups, we say

“Thank you, Rose.”

We guess, the bottom line, is that this is a

unique breeder.  She does everything she does

because she loves Sheps.  She knows what she

is doing.  This is a smart woman who combines

love with knowledge of the breed.

On June 6, 2008, my husband, Kit, and I drove up to Rose Sweeney’s home to take our new boy, Guthrie, home.  We had purchased Guthrie via phone calls with Rose and tons of pictures on line. 

As she welcomed us into her home, we saw immediately that we were in the home of a woman who provided the best of care for her new puppies who were all just gorgeous. 

Guthrie was frolicking with his brothers and sisters in Rose’s kitchen area.  The entire space was filled with fun puppy toys and soft, warm blankets.  The puppies were so wonderfully friendly and beautiful, too. 

After meeting them all, we met Mama Dog, Celie, who was such a good looking sweetheart, and Rose's other shepherds; all of whom were stunning to see and gentle to interact with. 

    Our Guthrie is now eight months old, and we feel so lucky to have such a magnificent German Shepherd.  He is such a kind, obedient, loving boy.  He loves all his humans and is so affectionate.  He listens well and training has been so smooth. 

We have yet to take him out to places without being stopped and given compliments either about his looks or his mannerisms. 

He loves all other dogs he has met and is very social.  We are so thankful for Rose for choosing to do all the hard work it takes to breed and raise high quality German Shepherds.  Her knowledge, expertise and love all come together to help bring these most incredible dogs to our world. 

She is super involved with her dogs.  We still correspond often with Rose to both update her about Guthrie and tap her storehouse of shepherd knowledge.

Dearest Rose,
In early January 2009, after months of anticipation,

we received a puppy from Vom Haus Edinburgh.

Our new bundle of energy, Hemi, is the best

belated Christmas gift ever! He is beautiful,

intelligent, and very sweet!

At 3 months old, he has

even shocked our vet with his physical build,

conformity to the breed, temperament, etc. He calls

him 'ideal'. He has brought so much joy

to our home.

We cannot thank Rose enough for providing us

with the perfect puppy!   From the first contact I had

with her, it has been a joy. Never have we gotten

a puppy with so many updates, photos,

etc while they were still with the breeder.

It has been a delight to work with Rose, and I

already know where our next female will be

from! Thank you again for your tireless work in

making Hemi a reality for us! We gave you a tall

order to fill with our request for a Lasso prodigy,

and you delivered far beyond our expectations! You

We lost our 11 year old German Shepherd, Addy in August 2005. After a few months our hearts had somewhat mended and we started on a quest of finding another furry friend. In March 2006 we saw Rose Sweeney's ad in the Wisconsin State Journal and gave her a call. By the time we contacted her, all the puppies had homes. She invited us to her house to meet the little ones. We were greeted by one of Rose's dogs, Indee who is the welcoming committee at the front door.

The puppies were in Rose's kitchen which reminded us of a day care center with the baby gate, toys and clean blankets on the floor. The puppies were adorable and already understood the sit command. Rose mentioned that she was going to breed Indee for the next litter. Indee's beauty and gentle spirit won us over immediately and we asked to be placed on the waiting list.

Good things come to those who wait. Liebchen, German for sweetheart or dear, was born on May 19, 2007 to Admiral and Indee. She has her dad's stunning black and red color and her mom's beauty and gentle disposition. Rose sent along with us a blanket Indee and the littermates slept on. Their scent provided much comfort those first few nights for our new arrival. She still hauls it around the house from room to room like a MASH unit bugging out.

 Lieb has turned into our little road dog sitting in the back seat of the Jeep content to have us chauffeur her around. Taking her on field trips to Mounds Pet Food Warehouse is like being in the company of a rock star capturing the attention of all who are near her. She shares her unconditional love with young and old alike and gender doesn't matter.

Having this little dog join our family has brought back a lot of laughs and adventure into our lives. Liebchen's great start in life is all due to the committed effort of Rose Sweeney. She lives by a philosophy that if you're going to do something, do it right. Her love for animals is something to be emulated. Her operation is clean, organized and well run. She's honest and has a heart of gold.

We would recommend Rose Sweeney to anyone looking for a German Shepherd. She's the best of the best and a friend for life.

After our first German Shepherd, Zoe, passed away unexpectedly in 2006, our family was heartbroken. Zoe was such an important part of our family and we knew we could never replace her. As we started to heal, we knew that another puppy would help ease the heartache. We started to look at different web sites to see what types of GAD breeders were in the south-central Wisconsin area.

We came across Rose’s web site and were very impressed. We immediately thought Rose was almost too good to be true because she is not only close to Madison, it was apparent that she shares the same passion for German Shepherds that we do. We decided to give her a call.

After contacting Rose, it was apparent where our next GAD would come from. We were so impressed with her knowledge and professionalism. She really sympathized with our loss of Zoe.

Rose clearly knows the GAD breed and deeply cares about breeding the best puppies possible. We immediately asked Rose to put us on her waiting list. We were also impressed with how important it is to Rose that her pups go to good homes.

After looking at Rose’s web site, we became very enthralled with Indee, Rose’s stunningly beautiful female GAD. We were very excited when Rose said she was going to be breeding Indee. We began counting the days until the pups were born on May 19, 2007. Rose frequently gave us updates and pictures via email. We felt like we were a part of the entire process.

When we picked Harley up, Rose had everything ready. Harley had been given a bath, a bag of food, some toys, a collar and leash, and treats in a “goodie” bag. She even provided a binder with his immunization record and useful information about the breed.

It is the small details like this that indicate just how important it is to Rose that new owners get off on the right track. She clearly takes pride in providing the best puppies and the best service possible.

Our family would like to thank Rose for this wonderful experience. We love Harley and appreciate what a great pedigree he comes from. It was obvious from the start that all Rose’s puppies have received a lot of human love and interaction. We look forward to many wonderful years with our new family member, Harley.

I own one of Rose's puppies from her latest litter (Ussa X Admiral}. I looked at over 30 breeders, spoke to some on the phone, thru e-mail and looking at websites and I often found that I either didn't like the breeder or I didn't like
what they had to offer.

I wanted the "Whole Package".
A breeder with good lines pedigree), trustworthy and honest,
patient (since I had a million questions), early socialization
of the puppies,etc... Rose exceeded my expectations.
She is not only a wonderful breeder but person as well.
She is someone I consider a friend and has always been
there for me whenever I have a question.

I would not hesitate to
get another dog from her or refer her to anyone. P.S. We like

We added another member to our family when we purchased our puppy from Rose two years ago. We previously purchased a puppy from another breeder which ended tragically two weeks after we brought her home.

She had a congenital condition that was terminal. The breeder had no sympathy for us. We contacted Rose a few weeks later and were very impressed with her knowledge and love of the breed. We explained our previous experience and how hard it was on our family. She was very empathetic and truly felt our loss. Rose informed us that Hanna, Bella’s mom, was expecting a litter. We were very excited.

 While we were waiting for the puppies to be born Rose kept us updated with Hanna’s progress. As soon as they were born, she let us know and sent pictures. When the puppies were old enough for us to visit we got to meet them. Rose answered any questions we had and even told us things we didn’t even think to ask. We were very impressed with all the information she gave us when we brought Bella home.

Bella has been a great addition to our family. She is beautiful and very well tempered. Our 13 year old daughter and 7 year old son are her best buddies. Rose has been extremely supportive of us and we greatly appreciate it! We would definitely recommend Rose to anyone looking to purchase a puppy.

My husband and I have always talked about and wanted to get a GAD puppy. But when our youngest son turned 18 and began to move out of our home I think the “Empty Nest” syndrome got us. It wasn’t long and I was on the computer researching and talking to breeders all over the country. I almost had things set-up with a breeder in California when I came across Rose’s web site.

Her web site was so beautiful, it was obvious the love, care and respect she felt for her dogs.  I felt I just had to contact Rose before I went any farther with the other breeder.

After a number of correspondences with Rose we knew we wanted to meet her and see her puppies. We went to meet her and were so impressed with Rose, her knowledge, professionalism, and love for her puppies were immediately obvious.

My husband fell in love with little Charley on first sight so we closed the deal that day. We had to wait for Charley a whole week and it was all Bill could do to make it through. He literally counted the days until we could go pick Charley up.

On that day Rose was so helpful and wonderful words just cannot explain it. But it was the tear in her eye and the heartfelt “Give him a good home!” as we walked away that said to us, we have the right breeder. I will never forget that day.

Since then Rose has been there for us any time we needed advice or help with Charley. Her knowledge and personal attention are unsurpassed.

Bill and I want to thank Rose for our beautiful little Charley. He is so strong and smart and inquisitive. He has been a most welcome addition to our family. We fell in love with him immediately and so has every one who has met him.

They say loyalty, true friendship, faith, devotion and love are things you can’t buy, they are things that are generally thought of as NOT FOR SALE. Well, we bought it just the same, just the other day; it comes with big, trusting brown eyes and a wagging tail.

Thank you Rose so much, you have brought such joy into our home-and filled the void of our children leaving-we are alive and kicking again.

Dear Rose,
My husband and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for our beautiful and well tempered Major. Major is now 3 years old, and he is proving to be a great “big brother” for our son, Donovan. Donovan is a very inquisitive one year-old, and Major, even at 105 pounds, puts up with a lot of harassment from our son.

He is gentle and kind, even though we often find Donovan pulling his hair, and chasing Major around the room, Major’s instincts take over, and is very gentle.

Major is our first dog, and from the get go, you have been a wonderful breeder, and have truly shown that you care about your pups. We greatly appreciate you checking in on Major, and helping us through the training process. Your knowledge and advice has given us a wonderful companion, and now a big brother for our son.

Major is a big boy, and his heart is just as big. He has been a protector, and a snuggler. He respects his owners, and knows his limits. He would love to play ball 24/7, but knows that when Donovan is sleeping its time to be quiet. Major is a very intelligent dog, and has become a member of our family.

He is very well adjusted, and knows how to wrestle with my husband one minute, and be careful around our son the next.
We are so grateful we have Major in our life, and cannot imagine our home without him. We are glad that Donovan has a playmate and a protector. Every time someone talks about getting a dog, we make sure that we tell them about you and your puppies.

If we are ever looking for another puppy, be assured, you will be the very first person we call. Thank you for being so supportive, and being such a compassionate breeder.

We purchased a puppy from Rose about 2 years ago and have been very happy with our decision. We had contacted several breeders, but after meeting Rose we didn't think twice about which breeder we wanted to work with.

Rose is a very honest, caring, and knowledgeable breeder and very professional to deal with. Throughout our whole "adoption" experience she kept in touch with us and updated us on Brody's progress. She truly puts her dogs first and wants to make sure that they are going into the right environment.

Rose was picking us as owners as much as we were picking out which puppy we would take home. Whenever we have any questions or concerns she very promptly gets back to us and is always willing to give advice.

Our Brody has turned into a great dog and we have been complimented many times on what a beautiful boy he is. He is very smart and truly a very loving dog! We have kept in touch with Rose over the past 2 years and she is always thrilled to get pictures of Brody and always interested in how he is doing.
